On behalf of the Supervisors and staff of Middle Smithfield Township, welcome and thank you for visiting our website.  We hope you will find this site not only informational but user-friendly.

911 Re-Addressing

Monroe County 911 Project - Residents of Monroe County and Lehman Township, Pike County, are encouraged to visit the Monroe County Control Center Website for the latest information regarding the 911 Readdressing Project.  You may also contact Kim Borger, E-9-1-1 Addressing Coordinator at 570 420-3466 or by email at kborger@co.monroe.pa.us.

We are happy to provide you with information about the state-mandated 911 re-addressing program.  First of all, even the Monroe County Control Center is advising callers to do nothing for 60 days, even though their letter says "immediate".  The 60 day time period is to sort out any inaccuracies (We know, it's confusing--the letters from the Monroe County Control Center says "immediate" in one place and wait 60 days in another place, and another from the Post Office is also inconsistent.)

Under our 911 readdressing ordinance you have 180 days to comply, and the Post Office will deliver mail addressed with the old address for one year -- so there's plenty of time!  But, if you like, you can order your address marker now.  You do not have to change your deed unless house is sold.  Please keep your letters with your deed.

One of the good things about the new 911-readdressing is that everyone can now receive deliveries from UPS, FedEx, ect., because the physical address and the mailing address will be the same!

Also, below are links that explain about your sign.  Bushkill Ambulance Corps is administering the 911 house signage for our township, and will order it, and even the hardware if you need it, for you:

As far as placement of you sign, Bushkill Ambulance Corps can answer your questions about that also, hut in the mean time:

  • place you sign at the end of you driveway where it intersects with the street
  • the top or your number sign must be 4 feet from the ground
  • you may place your sign on a tree at the end of your driveway or your mailbox (if it is at the end of your driveway), BUT it must be visible from BOTH directions (there is special mounting hardware for that)
  • TOWNHOUSES: If you live in a townhouse, please contact the township regarding placement instructions.

We hope this answers all your questions.  If not please feel free to email us at mst911address@gmail.com or call us at 570-223-8920 ext. 17

Ordinance No. 185 was passed by a majority vote on March 6, 2012.
