Person of the Year plaque & check presentation

Please join Middle Smithfield Township in presenting our 2016 Person of the Year winner, Kate Newman and our 2 finalists; Al Compoly Jr. and Andy Zaso with their plaques at our Preview of 2017 on Thursday, January 26th at 7:00 pm at the Township Building located at 147 Municipal Drive, East Stroudsburg, PA, 18302.

The Person of the Year received $2,000 toward their cause and the two finalists received $750 toward their cause. The winners were announced at the Person of the Year and Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on November 18, 2016 at the Whispering Pines Banquet Hall at Country Club of the Poconos.

Also in attendance will be State Congressman Matt Cartwright, State Senator Mario Scavello, and State Representative Rosemary Brown to give out citations and recognition from the state.

Kate Newman was nominated for her work with Bushkill Outreach community food pantry over the past 17 years. Recently retiring from her position as Director of Bushkill Outreach, she has plans to travel to Budalangi, Kenya in 2017 to live and work at a small orphanage and school with initial efforts focusing on clean water.

Al Compoly Jr. was nominated for his work with Operation Chillout which is an organization that aims to bring aide to homeless veterans throughout New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Al Compoly Jr., who is an Air Force veteran also works with the Monroe County Joint Veterans Honor Guard that helps provide the final honors for fallen veterans.

Andy Zaso was nominated for his work with Mady’s Kitchen which is a free monthly community dinner that is run by Mady’s Kitchen.  Andy also volunteers at the St. John’s Church in Middle Smithfield Township where he cooks for the Seniors Club and also volunteers for the Italian Mutual Benefit Association and the Veteran’s Affairs.
