1000 Feet of Street & the Boy Scout Rule

Township Cleanup: 1000 Feet of Street and the Boy Scout Rule

Who’s ready for some clean streets?

IMG_20150415_101714The Boy Scouts from the Resica Scout Reservation and Hutch Hutchinson have teamed up with Middle Smithfield Township again this year to organize the next cleanup event for roads and streets within the Township. This event will take place on April 25th, starting at 8:00am.  Also joining in will be Kelli Oney and Cub Scout Den 100 and Raquel Barbera and East Stroudsburg Little League Softball.

The Boy Scouts have a rule: “Always leave the campground cleaner than you found it.” On Saturday the 25th, the Boy Scouts of America and the Middle Smithfield Litter and Beautification subcommittee will make that rule a reality.

“The 1,000 feet of street concept started with just a few volunteers and has now grown to the point where even visiting scouts to the area will donate some time during their trip to our area.” – Mike Dwyer, Supervisor.   “As we prepare for the summer tourist season and want to showcase our businesses, and we want residents and visitors to see a clean and beautiful township.”

Volunteers will meet at the Township building on the morning of April 25th for supplies, be split into groups, and depart to various locations throughout the Township to beautify Middle Smithfield. If you can’t start at 8:00am, but would like to help whether for the morning, the afternoon, or even just an hour or two, just call Karen Stapleton and she will arrange it.  The Boy Scouts will focus on Pardees Loop, the back of Tom X Road to 402, the back of portion Sellersville Drive, Oak Grove, and the Park & Ride parking lot.  The Township volunteers will focus on other roads throughout the Township including all of State Road 209, the front part of Sellersville, 402, Coolbaugh Road, etc.. Middle Smithfield Township will provide reflective vests, road crew signs, and other supplies as needed.

Whether you can help for the morning, or for the afternoon, or even just for an hour or too, please call Karen Stapleton at 570-223-8920, x118.
