Person of the Year finalists announced

The independent panel of judges today announced the 3 finalists for Middle Smithfield Township’s second Person of the Year award:

  1. Michelle Cacko, for her work with the East Stroudsburg Youth Association
  2. Tim O’Donnell, for his work with the Kiwanis Club of the Poconos -Daybreak
  3. Chauly Younger, for her work with the township’s Community Gardens Park, benefitting Bushkill Outreach.

 

On New Year’s Eve, the judges will hand over a sealed envelope announcing who they selected as the 2015 Middle Smithfield Township Person of the Year.

 

The independent panel of judges was selected by a committee of the township’s three elected auditors (Joyce Fenical, Regina Ireland, and Angela Nevin) and the chair of the Person of the Year sub-committee (Craig Wetherbee.)  The judges are: Pastor Jeff Brower of the Middle Smithfield Evangelical Presbyterian Church; Dr. Matt Connell of Northampton Community College; Laura Law, the 2014 Middle Smithfield Person of the Year; Jeff Weber, Professor at East Stroudsburg University; Wayne Witkowski, Editor of Pike & Monroe News.

 

NOMINEES and AWARD:

  1. Michelle Cacko was nominated for her continuous work with children and the East Stroudsburg Youth Association.
  2. Timothy O’Donnell, public relations director of the Kiwanis Club of the Poconos- Daybreak, was nominated for the children’s environmental learning program he created.
  3. Chauly Younger, a Penn State Master Gardener trainee, contributed countless hours at the Middle Smithfield Township Community Gardens Park assisting and teaching other gardeners, and promoted the “Grow a Row Program”, resulting in 150 pounds of fresh, organic produce for the Bushkill Outreach food pantry.

 

The Person of the Year will receive $2,000 toward their cause, and the two finalists will each receive $750 toward their cause. (as permitted by township code: If the township is not permitted to donate to the cause under township code, the winner may suggest another cause.)

 

The awards will be announced just before dinner at the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Whispering Pines Banquet Hall in Country Club of the Poconos from 8 pm- midnight.  Find out more at www/mstPersonOfTheYear.com
