The Municipal Authority's meetings are held on the first Thursday and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm. Authority meetings are open to the public.

In 1989, the Middle Smithfield Township Municipal Authority signed a lease/purchase agreement with Fernwood, Inc. to oversee the expansion of the then, Fernwood Treatment Facility to 1,000,000 gallons per day. The Middle Smithfield Township Municipal Authority took over ownership and operation of the Fernwood Treatment Facility in 1993.  The Authority,  service area includes the Route 209 corridor, between Country Club of the Poconos and Fernwood Resort. Servicing Route 209, Lake of the Pines, Northpark Estates, Country Club of the Poconos and The Estates at Great Bear. 

To date the MSTMA has sold over fifty percent of the available capacity on a first come, first serve basis. 

RESPONSIBILITY

It is the responsibility of the Authority to monitor monthly discharge reports from the Middle Smithfield Township Wastewater Treatment Facility along with the reports from other privately owned sewage treatment facilities located in Middle Smithfield Township.  The Authority reports to the Middle Smithfield Township Supervisors when water quality problems occur.  The Supervisors then take corrective action with the assistance from the township Engineer, Solicitor and the Municipal Authority.

To insure future water quality, the Middle Smithfield Township Municipal Authority along with the Township Supervisors continues to monitor ground and surface water within the township.
