Middle Smithfield Park and Recreation Board
May 5, 2008
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 6:50 pm. Present members: Al Decker, Joyce Fenical,
Bob Spano, Virginia Manbeck. Excused: Pat LaPeter, Maria Oliveras.
Day in the Park, September 20,
2008
The Board discussed the draft
flyer for vendors. It was decided that the event will run from 12:00 pm to 4:00
pm. Vendors will set up at 11:00.
Halloween Trail
The Board will ask Maria to
contact Dr. Rayansam to set up a time for the Board members to visit the space
that has been offered at Foxmoor and decide what activities can be accommodated
and if there is a place for the barbecue to be set up. Dr. Rayansam has
requested a letter of agreement if the township decides to use the space. Bob
Spano suggested that a certificate of insurance accompany the letter. An organizer is needed for this event and
donors must be contacted for candy, etc. The date for this event is Saturday,
October 25, 2008.
Farmers’ Market and Yard Sale
The Board agreed that further
research is needed before scheduling this event which would be held at Echo
Lake Park, date to be decided. Al Decker will inquire about the Stroudsburg
Farmers’ Market. The Board will ask Maria to contact St. John’s about the date
of their flea market so there is no conflict. We will also need a flyer for
vendors for this event. The possibility of combining this with a yard sale was
discussed though the consensus was that the yard sale was not a great success.
Discussion of the above events
will be continued after the meeting with Dr. Ryansam. Maria will contact Board
members with the date of that meeting.
Municipal Park
Two of the three consultant
interviews have been held. The last interview is on Wednesday, May 7 at 4:00.
Once the consultant is selected, a meeting with the Board will be scheduled to
begin planning.
Other Business
Scheduling a rain barrel seminar
was discussed. Virginia Manbeck will contact the Conservation District
regarding a speaker for a seminar on rain barrels. Bob Spano suggested this be
held in conjunction with a program on gypsy moths in order to insure an
audience.
Bob Spano suggested a fishing event which could be held at
Richards’ pond or at the pond on Tom X Road near CCP. This event would be
planned for next year.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
The next meeting will be June 2nd at 6:45.
