Middle
Smithfield Park
& Recreation Board
March 3, 2008
The first meeting of the newly created Park & Recreation
Board for Middle Smithfield
Township was held on March 3, 2008 at the Municipal
Building. The meeting was called to order at 7:10
pm. Present members: Al Decker, Pat La
Peter, Virginia Manbeck, Bob Spano and the recording secretary, Maria
Oliveras. Guest in attendance Scott
Schaller.
The reorganization of the committee was discussed. One more member is required to complete the
five member board. Scott Schaller stated
that he would contact Saglinda Roberts to ask her if she would be interested in
joining the committee. Scott mentioned
that some letters of interest came by correspondence to Sherry Predmore. Once the final member is appointed, the
committee will discuss if they want to keep the meeting date and time the
same. Pat La Peter was appointed the
chairperson. Maria will type up a list with all the members
email and other contact information.
Echo Lake
Park - The Master
Plan has been approved. The NPDES permit
application has been submitted to the conservation district. Construction can not start until permits are
acquired. Pat La Peter has prices for
pavilions and Al Decker brought in brochures on pavilion structures. The grant for the barbeque grill was
discussed. The grant was preliminarily
approved. Copies of the notice letter and the grant application were made
available for each member. It was noted that once final approval and permits
are acquired, the first priority would be the parking lot and toddler
playground. Virginia Manbeck stated that
the Burgers & Boulders grant has a deadline date of April 25. If the grant is approved, we should use those
funds toward a Pavilion. Virginia
said that she would invite Laurel Bishow to the next meeting and also asked her
if she would be interested in joining the Open Space Committee. Virginia
will get together with Al Decker and Laurel Bishow to discuss the Burgers and
Boulders grant. Laurel
has experience in grant writing.
Municipal
Park - The RFP for the
Judy Putek Memorial Park Master Plan went out to various consulting companies. The proposal deadline date is March 14th. A pre-bid meeting was held on Monday,
February 25th. An addendum
was done to the RFP requesting separate prices as alternates to the base bid
for boundary and topographic survey and wetlands delineation. Three public meetings will be held to discuss
the study activities, review alternative concepts proposed and review the final
plan. Al Decker asked if a recent survey
was done. Maria will check with Sherry
and advise the board at the next meeting.
Resica Park
– The Pavilion reservation was discussed.
It was decided that the Pavilion would be reserved depending on the
group size. A $25 or $50 deposit would
be required to reserve it and the deposit would be returned if no damage was
done to the area.
A bid for fencing
went out for the little league field.
The deadline for bids is March 12th. The bids will be opened
at the Supervisors meeting on March 13th.
Events
Easter Egg Hunt
The 1st
Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 15th with a rain date
of March 22nd at Resica Park. Maria Oliveras stated that donation letters
went out to business and a display ad went to the Community News. Radio stations have been advised about the
event so they can announce it. Approval
was given by the Dr. Heath, Superintendent of schools for flyers to be given
out to each student and approval to use the school’s athletic field and the playground
area. Maria mentioned that volunteers
are needed to stuff the eggs. Prizes
have been purchased for all the age groups.
Day in the Park
The Day in the
Park event has been scheduled for Saturday, September 20th. Maria will do a flyer for the event. A display ad will be placed requesting
vendors for the event.
Halloween Trail
The Halloween Trail location was discussed. Scott Schaller stated that it would be good
to have it at the Foxmoor Village. There is ample parking and electric available
and one of the units can be used for a haunted house. Scott will contact Dr. Rayansam to get the
permission to use the Foxmoor Village
for the event. Al Decker and Pat La
Peter will implement the event. Al
mentioned that we should check the trailer for Halloween items and also check
the rest of the inventory.
Yard Sale
Al Decker stated that the Yard Sale last year was ok. Scott Schaller mentioned that maybe it could
just be incorporated with the Day in the Park event or maybe do a farmers
market instead of the yard sale. No
decision taken at this time.
Other
Scott Schaller mentioned that Camp William Penn might be up for
sale. Virginia Manbeck will look into
this and report back at the next meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Maria Oliveras
