Middle Smithfield Township Introduces MapLink: Making Zoning Information More User Friendly

Middle Smithfield Township is pleased to announce the introduction of eCode360® MapLink™; a new interactive website focusing on community growth through simplified zoning information, making zoning information more accessible and user friendly to the public and business community. Middle Smithfield Township is the first municipality in Monroe County to implement this program.

What is MapLink? MapLink is an interactive zoning map that is linked to the township zoning ordinance. Those looking to develop or purchase property in Middle Smithfield Township now have a brand-new tool that will help them quickly and easily navigate local zoning regulations. The site allows property owners, business owners, developers, realtors and other local officials committed to economic development and community growth to find property details they are most interested in, including dimensional requirements, allowable uses, zoning districts and more.

The Board of Supervisors believe that the MapLink site will be beneficial to the community on a number of fronts; helping people move ahead more confidently with development projects to build the local economy while protecting the character of Middle Smithfield Township.

“This is a great tool for both the township office staff and the community. Office staff will be able to quickly and easily look up property information and assist callers. But, even better, residents can use this tool to help market their property for sale, realtors can use this tool to find the property that meets their client’s wish list and developers can use this tool to find the perfect property to house their project.” Judith Acosta, Assistant Zoning Officer for Middle Smithfield Township.

About eCode360 MapLink:
eCode360 MapLink was developed by General Code of Rochester, NY and Civic Webware™ of Lake Mills, WI. General Code currently houses more than 2,100 Codes on its eCode360 platform for municipalities in 30 States and Canada. Civic Webware is the developer of ZoningHub, an interactive, easy-to-use online platform that simplifies access to zoning information.

The combined strengths of both companies were key to the creation of MapLink according to Jeff Wight, Vice President of Operations for General Code. “Codes housed on eCode360 are stored as data which makes it easy to link information to Zoning Hub’s interactive mapping technology. The result is a clear, accurate visual display of the city’s zoning information in an interactive map that is easy to access, use, understand and can help the city be more efficient in answering zoning questions,” said Wight.

The MapLink solution is also being implemented by municipalities as a complement to their zoning codes. “MapLink will make it easier for communities like Middle Smithfield Township to develop properties and businesses and that’s exciting. By taking zoning information that is traditionally complex and presenting it visually, anyone who is interested in economic development will be able to quickly find and understand the zoning details they need to move their projects forward,” said Wight.
