Middle Smithfield Township announced today that residents may now submit nominations for the Person of the Year Award. The award recognizes Middle Smithfield residents whose volunteer work makes a positive impact on the world, or someone who volunteers primarily in Middle Smithfield Township. The award highlights the importance of altruism, philanthropy and community service. The recipient of the award will receive $2,000 towards their cause, while two finalists will receive $750 each toward their cause.
“The Person of the year award was an honor to be a part of and to win. I really love how the township wants to help those people and organizations who are giving back in our community,” said Laura Law, 2014 Person of the Year and founder of Mady’s Angels. “There are so many deserving people, and it has helped to make others aware of all of the good that is being done right here in Middle Smithfield.”
Do you have a relative, a friend, or a co-worker in Middle Smithfield Township who makes a positive impact? In every neighborhood there are “Unsung Heroes” – humanitarians who go well beyond their expected duties.
The award is issued by Middle Smithfield Township’s Supervisors to recognize the contributions philanthropists make to our community. The MST “Person of the Year” Award is available annually to individuals who meet or exceed requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. Nominees may have performed their volunteer work locally, nationally or internationally.
The nomination process is simple: Submit the contact information for both yourself and the person you wish to nominate. Then, write a brief story as to why the person you are nominating stands out. Highlight the work they have done and why they should win the Person of the Year award.
Nomination forms and details can be downloaded at www.mstPersonOfTheYear.com starting 08/29, or can be picked up at the township building.
Nominations will be accepted through September 26, 2016, and the finalists will be notified by October 11th.
An independent panel of judges representing the district judicial system, media, local clergy, education, business leaders and past POTY winners from across Middle Smithfield will select the award recipients.
The Township Supervisors will host a Person of the Year and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on November 18th at the Whispering Pines Banquet Facility to announce the winner and honor the finalists. The township will also recognize all township volunteers at the dinner, all committee members are invited. Sponsorships are also available.
