Middle Smithfield Township is excited to announce a significant grant award from the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau to support the Tidy Township initiative. The $20,000 grant, which the Township will match, allows Middle Smithfield Township to enhance community cleanliness, beautification, and environmental stewardship.
Tidy Township aims to address the challenge of roadside litter while promoting community engagement and civic pride. The grant will allow Middle Smithfield Township to dedicate employees to conduct roadside cleanups, enhance park areas with plantings and mulch, and undertake other beautification projects this summer.
"Middle Smithfield Township hopes to create a clean, welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike," said Middle Smithfield Township Supervisor and Public Works Director Mike Dwyer. "The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau grant will allow us to implement the Tidy Township initiative and make tangible improvements to our community's appearance and quality of life."
The project will focus on Milford Road/Route 209, which is the main business corridor through Middle Smithfield Township. It will also extend to other major roads within the township as much as possible.
"Many years ago, Middle Smithfield Township created our successful volunteer litter cleanup programs, 1,000 Feet of Street and Adopt a Road,” Dwyer continued. “Our Township was also a stakeholder in the beginnings of "Pick Up the Poconos." We continue to participate each year and advocate for getting our residents involved. We believe that if guests and residents see the significant effort put into keeping our township clean, they become part of the culture of "Keeping PA Beautiful." This grant will take our litter and beautification efforts to the next level.”
Middle Smithfield Township extends its sincere appreciation to the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau for its generous support and reaffirms its commitment to making Middle Smithfield Township a cleaner, more vibrant community for all.
