About the Community & Cultural Center:
The mission of the Middle Smithfield Township Community & Cultural Center—created by the community, for the community—is to serve as “a space for good people to do good work, for the common good.”
In more specific terms, the space was designed to be a place for community gatherings; as an exhibit space for local artists and art organization; home to the Library of the Smithfields; and a Red Cross certified emergency shelter for dealing with emergencies. The Great Hall, as you enter the building, serves as a local museum for revolving exhibits based on the anniversary of local events and the history of the area.
Saving a Piece of the Past for all of the Future:
One of the Foundation’s projects will be assisting with incorporating an icon of the area, the old Mosier’s Dairy Farm formerly located in Smithfield Township, into the Community & Cultural Center. Mosier’s Dairy Farm was in operation for over 40 years, but the farm was built centuries earlier. Partially deconstructed, salvaged elements such as sleeper logs, louvres, hand-hewn timbers, and the like will be re-purposed and incorporated into the Middle Smithfield Community Center and the Library of the Smithfield’s, so that Mosier’s can live on. Even garden plants and cuttings have been transplanted for safe keeping, until they can be incorporated into a display garden on the grounds. This is an example of a outstanding project to complete to fulfill the mission of the Community & Cultural Center.
Please apply if this work for the community appeals to you.
Middle Smithfield Township has created an edifice to house both the past and the future of our community.
